Captain Jenn, owner and captain at Nautical North Family Adventures, taught school in Cheboygan before ending that career to become a homeschooling mom to her three boys. During the course of homeschooling, she developed a business class for her boys (and herself!) when an idea was sparked in her heart to lead her boys and her to a much better life. Together, Captain Jenn and her three boys wrote a 38-page business plan to begin Nautical North Family Adventures. They pitched it to “Invest Cheboygan” (a shark-tank like local program), in an effort to procure funds to get the business loan. They lost the contest. Two days later, Captain Jenn received a phone call from a private investor that was watching from the audience – his words a welcome relief – “Hey kid, I think you’ve got what it takes, how much do you need for the loan?” The rest is history. He has been paid back, the company is in year 6, and Captain Jenn has written a book about all the miracles along the way. It’s title is “Captain of My Own Ship: Sunshine’s Story”. |
